Caetano Calomino’s Hand Painted Signs

Caetano Calomino Is A Sign Painter, Letterer And Illustrator From Brazil Based In São Paulo. In 2011 He Started To Study Calligraphy And In A Few Months Became An Assistant Of Claudio Gil, A Renowned Calligrapher And Professor. Then, He Became A Scholar Of Traditional Sign Painting, Having Spent A Season Working With Mike Meyer, Who Is From The Old Guard Of Sign Painters And Current President Of The CSA (Criative Signmakers Of America).

In 2012 He Was Invited By IdeaFixa, To Create His First Workshop About Brush Script And In 2013 The First Sign Painting Class In Brazil. For The Last 3 Years, Caetano Is Working In Type, Design And Art, In Both Commercial And Educational Sectors. Caetano Has Also Lectured About His Commercial And Conceptual Projects In Several Universities Of Brazil.

While Teaching And Monitoring Students In The Construction And Production Of A Lettering Style In Brush Script He Would Usually Start With The Initial Study Of Shapes Achieved Through Free Techniques: Historical Context, Paints And Tools, Basics, Use Fine-tipped Brush, Clean Design With Parchment Paper And Finish With Demonstrations And Evaluations Of The Exercises And Results.

In The World Of Sign Painting A Balance Between Skill And Dexterity With The Brush By Drawing Letters And Layouts Is Crucial. The Main Focus In His Workshop Are Issues Related To Construction And Characteristics Of Letters (proportions, Kerning, Serifs, Types And Volume Shadow Types) As Well As Exercises For The Development Of Skills With The Brush Lyricist.

Being The 1st Of Its Kind In Brazil, The Aim Of This Course Was To Follow The Student From The Most Basic Issues Of Sign Painting Until They Create Their Own Wooden Board Painted Using The Techniques And Materials Presented.
